The Presidential Library celebrates 15th anniversary!
On May 27, 2024, the Presidential Library celebrates 15 years since its opening. It is the largest multifunctional information, scientific, cultural and educational center. The Presidential Library subordinates to the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation and is the first electronic national library of Russia.
The Library is located in the center of St. Petersburg near St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Admiralty and the Bronze Horseman, in the historical building of the Holy Synod, built in the second quarter of the 19th century according to the design of the outstanding architect Carlo Rossi.
The Presidential Library's collections digitally include books and periodicals, newsreels, photographs, scientific and educational films, dissertation abstracts, archival documents and materials that spotlight the history of Russian statehood, the theory and practice of law, and the Russian language as the state language of the Russian Federation.
Among the unique publications are the Laurentian Chronicle, the Ostromir Gospel, the Civil Alphabet with morals (with the marks of Peter I), the Common Coat of Arms of the noble families of the Russian Empire, begun in 1797, and others.
The Presidential Library always pays much attention to preserving historical memory, countering the falsification of history, and creating an information space that helps strengthen patriotism and spiritual and moral values.
The Collection of digitized archival documents, film and photo materials World War II in archival documents is posted and constantly updated on the portal of the Presidential Library. In accordance with the List of instructions for the implementation of the Address of the President of the Russian Federation to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation dated January 15, 2020, the organizers of the Collection are the Federal Archival Agency (Rosarkhiv), the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation and the Presidential Library.
The Collections of the Presidential Library are in demand by the society. The Presidential Library has become the only library whose links (QR codes) to information resources have been included in new textbooks on the history of Russia and universal history for high school students. Of all the Internet links in the new textbooks, more than 15% of QR codes lead to the collections of the Presidential Library, which contain more than 15 thousand documents and materials on the history of Russia.
The volume of the electronic holdings of the Presidential Library is more than one million depository items. Most of the documents are freely available on the Library's Internet portal.
The full collections of the Presidential Library are available in the electronic reading room located at Senate Square, 3, St. Petersburg, at branches of the library in Moscow and Tyumen, as well as in more than 1,600 remote access centers to the resources of the Presidential Library, open on the territory of the Russian Federation and abroad.
The Presidential Library actively cooperates with federal, regional and municipal authorities, libraries, as well as archives, museums, educational institutions, mass media and foreign organizations. The partners participate not only in the formation of the electronic collections of the Presidential Library, its scientific, educational projects, but also in events organized on the Library's venue.
The Presidential Library has a well-developed infrastructure, including an electronic reading room and exhibition halls, a column hall, meeting rooms, a multifunctional transformable multimedia complex, a TV complex, digitization and digital data storage centers, and its own digital printing house.
Important functions of the Presidential Library are information and analytical services for the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation and public authorities of the Russian Federation, as well as technological and organizational support for international, federal and regional events, forums, conferences, official meetings of government and public figures of Russia and foreign countries.
Among the educational projects implemented by the Presidential Library are the projects "Great Russia", "Presidential Library for Teachers: teaching using primary sources", a competition of pedagogical projects "The Future of the Fatherland in the hands of a teacher", a competition of student works, a video lecture "Knowledge of Russia", a school Olympiad "Russia in the electronic world" in history science, Russian as a foreign language, multimedia lessons, meetings of the film club, exhibitions, quizzes, scientific and practical conferences on historical topics and the preservation of cultural and historical heritage in digital form, a Knowledge Forum, thematic days dedicated to cadets and students of military institutions, cosmonautics in the history of the country, and others. All of these events are held annually.
The results of the Presidential Library's activities are reflected in annual public reports and are regularly covered in federal and regional mass media.
The digital collection Presidential Library: Yesterday, today, tomorrow is available on the Presidential Library's portal. It is dedicated to the history of the Library's creation, the peculiarities of the formation of its holdings, the development of a regional network, scientific, methodological, educational, cultural activities, as well as cooperation of the Presidential Library with Russian and foreign organizations. The collection comprehensively presents documents and materials reflecting the development of the Library since the very frirst decision of it's foundation made in 2007. By the 15th anniversary of the Library, the Collection will be replenished with new documents.
