Khabarovsk will have single electronic system “Library”. Its concept was approved during the board meeting under the mayor of territorial center. Today it becomes more and more needed to receive information in digital format. Electronic versions of scientific magazines and archive documents are at high demand. Researchers and historians are often obliged to apply to the archives of Moscow and St. Petersburg to have a look at ancient manuscripts and books. The trips provoke certain difficulties. Besides, the number of visitors in libraries and archives of the capitals is limited. To provide an easy access to the information in all regions of Russia the so-called library “chain” from the Presidential library to the libraries of municipal level is being created. Khabarovsk that has 23 libraries is also joining this process. The concept of creation of single city electronic system “Library” implies three stages that are planned to be realized during the years 2010-2013. The first stage is to create the so-called “main body” on the basis of one of the central libraries and to install servers that enabling to connect with information system of the Far Eastern state scientific library that holds big resources. The second stage has to make a single network of mass libraries branches. The final stage will be joining to the project of libraries for children. All three stages intend not only technical equipment installation but also personnel training. This was the issue that drew the attention of almost all the exerts of information technologies who spoke at a meeting and who represented the Far Eastern state scientific library and city’s higher school. They pointed out that for the present librarians are not quite ready to use information systems and that system administrators are lacking.
