Memory of Russia: The Military-Historical Festival "Rzhevsky ledge" in the Tver region

22 July 2017

On July 22 and 23, 2017, in the village of Kokoshkino (Rzhevsky District, the Tver Region), with the support of the Russian Military Historical Society is taking place the Rzhevsky Ridge military historical festival, within the framework of which the military historical reconstruction dedicated to Operation Mars and the battles for Rzhev in 1942 will be held.

Within the framework of the festival will be held interactive sites, telling about the life and life of Soviet and German soldiers, a military historical camp, as well as a reconstruction of the battle near the village of Kokoshkino. This year, more than 1000 re-enactors from all over Russia take part in the IV annual festival "Rzhevsky ledge".

The reconstruction scenario is based on the events of the Rzhev-Vyazma operation in the summer of 1942: the 359th Infantry Division (offensive west of the village of Kokoshkino, further - Brekhovo) and the 375th Infantry Division (offensive to Nozhkino village, further - Kokoshkino) is tasked to connect with the surrounding troops of 29th Army.

The main strategic task in Operation Mars was to divert the enemy forces to ensure the success of the counteroffensive at Stalingrad. The operation ended on December 18, 1942.
