In the small house of Pyatigorsk, which belonged to the captain, the nobleman V. I. Chilayev, in 1841, the last two months of his life May 14 (26) to July 15 (27), 1841 - lived the great Russian poet Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov. Here he wrote the last poems, hence he sent his last letter to the grandmother of Arsenyev EA. The wounded poet was brought to this house after the duel and on July 17 (29), 1841, they saw him off on his last journey. August 5, 1884, on the initiative of the famous Russian playwright Alexander Ostrovsky, on the facade there was a memorial plaque with the inscription: "The house in which the poet lived M. Lermontov." In 1912, the Caucasian Mountain Society bought out a house and founded a museum. In 1973, the museum "Lermontov's Lodge" was transformed into the State Museum-Reserve of M. Yu. Lermontov, whose center was the memorial Lermontov quarter located in the historical part of the city of Pyatigorsk .
