An exhibition of paintings by Russian artist Natalia Shevchenko to be held in London

17 August 2017

From August 16 to September 6, 2017 in the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in London an exhibition of works by Russian artist Natalia Shevchenko (Nathan) "Ballet Vorticism" is taking place. The exposition is dedicated to Russian ballet.

The choice of the ballet theme in the artist's work is not accidental. Born in Saint-Petersburg, an unusually enthusiastic with ballet since childhood, attending the Mariinsky Theater, the Maly Opera and Ballet Theater, for many years she retained vivid impressions and love for the wonderful world of art. Nathan wants to express his vision and understanding of the plastic of dance and music in color, to find a composition for the expressiveness of the images. The artist conveys complex plastic movements, using fragmentary compositions, as if drawing the "snatched frame" from the stage production to the viewer, emphasizing the movement of the form in space.

Boldly using angles in motion, the artist achieves the effect of plastic, which is characteristic of ballet dance. Shevchenko's canvases create the impression of lightness and immediacy of the embodiment of artistic ideas, the desire to emphasize the color of the expressiveness and unexpectedness of the dance without dwelling on details, going from the general view of the action seen on the stage.

The Presidential Library portal features electronic collection "Russia - Great Britain: to the history of mutual relations".
