Quiz "History of writing and book printing: from the hand-written book - to the electronic one" in the M. Y. Lermontov Penza Regional Library

18 August 2017

August 16, 2017 the staff of the M. Y. Lermontov Penza Regional Library held for the children from the Center for Social Assistance to Family and Children of Oktyabrsky district of Penza city a cognitive quiz "History of writing and book printing: from a manuscript book to an electronic one".

Young visitors learned about cave drawings, which contained various scenes of ancient life, hunting and other types of primitive activity. With the help of such traces of the past one can know when the first people on the planet appeared, what they were doing, what the world around them was like.

Tracing the history of writing, the audience got familiar with one of the types of writing material - papyrus, which was made exclusively in Egypt. For all, it was a surprise to get a "scroll from the pharaoh" with a command to perform an Egyptian dance. This test was not only for children, but also for their parents.

After a short rest, the guys started to perform the next task. Everyone with great diligence painted the initial letter, decorating it with patterns and flowers, because in the old days when creating a hand-written book, the initial letter served for the design of the text. The staff of the regional resource access center of the Presidential Library opened at the M. Y. Lermontov Penza Regional Library demonstrated examples of letters in the first known Russian handwritten book - Ostromir Gospel, a digital copy of which is represented in the Presidential Library.

New concepts: papyrus, parchment, scriptorium, and the names of Johann Gutenberg and Ivan Fyodorov will now enter the vocabulary of young Penza people.

The Presidential Library portal features electronic collection "The Penza region: pages of history". The collection includes electronic copies of archival documents, essays, studies and statistical materials covering the demographic, geographic, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of the history of the Penza region at the end of the XVIII century and the first third of the XX century.
