The Presidential Library to hold two meetings on the development of formats of presentation and exchange of archival descriptions

21 March 2012, the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library will be holding two meetings on the development of standardized formats of representation and exchange of archival descriptions in the machine-readable form.

The first meeting will be attended by experts from the National Service of RUSMARC formats system development along with the invited specialists. During the meeting there will be presented the information on the results and resolutions of the UNIMARC IFLA Regular Committee on the introduction of additional fields and elements of data for the description of archival materials according to the proposals made by the National Service of RUSMARC formats system development. National producers of automated library systems will deliver their addresses on the prospective of implementation of the proposed elements of data to the software products.

The second meeting is the regular, fifth session of the Joint working group for the elaboration of principles and approaches to the combination of representation and access to library, archival and museum resources in compliance with the modern international standards. The meeting will consider the problems of formation of common authority files for libraries, archives, museums; there will be presented international standards, rules and formats of presentation of authority data. During the meeting there are expected the addresses of producers of national automated archival systems on the prospective of implementation and registration of international standards and formats of description of archival materials.

The meetings will be attended by experts from the leading libraries, archives of Russia from Moscow and St. Petersburg along with representatives of the leading national companies which produce software for libraries and archives.

The meetings are held in the mode of videoconferencing with the Reserve Center of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library in Moscow. Video materials of the meetings will be made available on the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library’s portal.
