The fate of Russia’s official language in live broadcast from the Presidential Library

September 2, the Presidential Library launches a new thematic year dedicated to the Russian language. By tradition, it coincides with the beginning of the school year and offers a wide range of events under the common name – the Day of Knowledge in the Presidential Library.

Presidential Library will present the new basic collection "Russian Language", which features more than 500 unique books, documents and even video lectures. Language as a means of information policy of the Russian state will be presented at the exhibition "Spreading Sensible and Patriotic Ideas" to open in the exposition halls of the library on the same day. Its visitors will learn about the projects of socio-political publications in Russia in the second quarter of the 19th century.

September 2 will begin scientific and educational conference "Society, State, National Language in Russia." Everyone interested will have an opportunity to join the conference: live broadcast will begin on the Presidential Library’s website at 10:00 a.m. Moscow time.

The conference promises to be imposing in terms of attendees and interesting: speakers from leading research institutions, including the director of the Institute of Linguistics of the RAS, Academician Nikolai Kazansky, Vice-Rector of St. Petersburg State University, professor Sergey Bogdanov and others will address St. Petersburg's students and Internet audience. They will highlight topical issues of the development of Russian language today, talk about the features of linguistic norms and linguistic changes in the dictionaries.

The conference will include the premiere of a documentary filmed by the Presidential Library about the founder of the modern Russian literary language – A. S. Pushkin, his influence on the present. The film will feature unexpected comments - not just by scientists, students, but also by young people from the generation of so-called hipsters, who discuss the language of Pushkin today, read poems of the great poet...
