The Presidential Library invites to Knowledge Day

On September 1, 2017, the Presidential Library traditionally host Knowledge Day. In the agenda: the “Natural and cultural heritage of Russia” scientific-n-outreach conference, the “Hydrometeorology — in the service of the native land” public video lecturing of “Knowledge of Russia” series, a sightseeing of the historical building of the Holy Synod, which was erected in the second quarter of the XIX century according to the project of an outstanding architect Karl Rossi, the exhibitions and much more. All events are timed to the Year of Ecology in Russia and to the Year of Specially Protected Natural Territories. The event starts at 11 am MSK. The popularization of science conference and public video lecturing will be aired on the Presidential Library website under Live broadcast section.

The “Natural and cultural heritage of Russia” scientific-n-outreach conference will open Knowledge Day in the Presidential Library. Participants will be told about the activities of the Great Arctic State Nature Reserve, the largest natural reserve in Eurasia. An audience will also learn about the amazing nature of the protected territories of Baikal, the North Caucasus and Central Asia. In addition, the presentation of faculty staff member of the Faculty of Geography of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A. I. Herzen is planned. Representatives of the Baikal State Nature Reserve, the Ubsunur Hollow State Natural Biosphere Reserve and the Teberda State Natural Biosphere Reserve will join the discussion in video-conferencing mode.

Within the framework of Knowledge Day the participants of the events will go sightseeing the Presidential Library. Guests can get acquainted with the history and architectural features of the building. Tourists will also learn more about the activities of the library. Joining historical traditions and the latest technologies, the Presidential Library forms today a nationwide electronic resource, where books and periodicals, archival historical documents, newsreels, scientific and educational films about the history of Russian statehood are digitally amassed. To date, the library fund contains more than 550 thousand electronic copies of unique materials and archival documents. Guests will visit the electronic reading room, conference hall, multimedia and television complexes, will see modern premises specifically created for major public and state level events.

In addition, on September 1, an official opening of the ““Protecting nature means protecting native land”: to the Year of Ecology in Russia” exhibition of the Presidential Library will take place, which will present viewers the materials on the history of shaping a nature conservation as a science focused on the diversity of Russia's natural heritage.

Public video lecturing of “Knowledge of Russia” series will finish the Knowledge Day program of the in the Presidential Library. This year, the staff employees of the Northwestern Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring will tell about the history of Hydrometeorological Service of Russia.

These and other events will launch the Knowledge Forum, which will run on September 1—7, 2017.

2 pm — “North-West of Russia: two areas — one history. To the 90th anniversary of the Leningrad Oblast and the 80th anniversary of the Vologda Oblast” exhibition opening.

 

5 September

 

10 am  — multimedia lessons of the Presidential Library dedicated to the Year of Ecology in Russia and the Year of Specially Protected Natural Territories.

3—5 pm — “Red Book” movie screening on the Presidential Library Cinema Club.

 

6 September

 

10 am — 12 pm — “Forest and the history of the forest industry in Russia” video lecture of “Knowledge of Russia” series.

 

7 September

 

11 am — 12:30 pm — “Perspectives of the use of electronic resources of the Presidential Library on the base of school information and library centers” methodical meeting.
