The website of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation released a new section about the first days of the Great Patriotic War. The resource contains intelligence reports, front-line reports, cypher telegrams, evidence of participants in the first battles and other documents.

The authors of the multimedia section called June 22, 1941, one of the most tragic days in the history of Russia. The released documents evidence that the Soviet Army could repulse the Germans and did not allow them to cross the border in a number of front sectors at the beginning of the war.

One of this sector was Rava-Russkaya district in Lvov Region. The units of the 6th Army defeated the attacks and only 50 enemy aircraft were destroyed on June 23. The documents also feature the heroism of the other Soviet units, in particular artillery and aircraft.

Soviet commanders testified that the Germans were methodical, well-armed and trained, but cowardly. Enemy soldiers often escaped from the bayonet attacks, and bombers retreated when sawing the Soviet aircraft.

The section also contains information on military press, which involved leading Soviet writers - Sergei Mikhalkov, Alexander Tvardovsky and others.
