Russian Language: Government Commission to examine the Russian spelling and punctuation rules

6 August 2020

The Government Commission on the Russian Language will be responsible for its preservation and development both in Russia and abroad. "It demands the creation of basic language policy", said Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at the cabinet council.

"First of all, the concept of the state language policy will be developed. Also, we are going to establish uniform criteria for the creation of dictionaries, reference books and grammars containing the norms of the modern Russian literary language. Among other things, it is necessary to carry out the examination of the Russian spelling and punctuation rules", explained the tasks for the Commission, the Head of Government.

Mishustin said that a significant part of the work would be the improvement of the level of specialists' training. It will involve those whose activities are associated with the professional use of the Russian language.

Last November, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave the order to form an interdepartmental commission of the Government after the meeting of the Russian Language Council.
