Information Technology and Museums: State Hermitage Museum launched a new navigation system for visitors

30 December 2020

The State Hermitage Museum launched a new navigation system for visitors - five modern interactive navigation kiosks have been already installed in the Main Museum Complex.

They are located at the start points for a visit to the Hermitage - the Jordan and Church Staircases. The visitors may find them at intersection areas along the way through the museum halls.

The kiosks allow following existing routes, making a short cut to the hall or exhibit of interest, moving around the museum without disrupting the traffic separation scheme, and paving the way to the necessary museum infrastructure.

Each visitor may get an individual route through the museum, based on personal interests or required time. It allows controlling the museum traffic in the current situation. The visitor may download the ready route to a mobile phone.

The kiosks also provide other useful information about masterpieces from the collections, museum events and exhibitions. The internal camera will help visitors take a souvenir photo and send it to personal e-mail. Visitors also have the opportunity to rate the museum using the feedback option in the kiosk.

The new navigation system is integrated with the official website of the State Hermitage Museum. The kiosks obtain the most relevant information automatically. The "Your Digital Guide" system is available in Russian and English to provide the new navigation options to all Hermitage visitors.
