Society and Reading: Literacy Centre to open in the Russian State Library for Youth in Moscow

31 May 2021

On May 31, 2021, the Russian State Library for Youth will hold the grand opening of the Literacy Centre. It is the capital's platform of the Literacy Library educational project created by the Total Dictation Foundation.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Presidential Grants and partners of the Total Dictation Foundation. Its main task is to organize dozens of literacy centres in thirteen Russian regions by the end of this year. They will operate on the basis of public libraries. The literacy centres will be public spaces where people have an opportunity to improve their knowledge of the Russian language, develop an interest in linguistics, get access to the latest dictionaries and encyclopedias and listen to lectures by the best philologists. The Russian State Library for Youth is a partner of the Literacy Library project. It assists in building long-term effective interaction between Russian libraries in the field of popularizing the Russian language.

The opening program of the Literacy Centre will include a presentation of methods developed especially for the Literacy Library project, a release of the book One Hundred Texts about the Language and an express discussion of the project's prospects.
