World History: Exhibition "At the Swiss Border. 1871" to open in Moscow

10 June 2021

On June 10, 2021, the "Battle of Borodino" Museum-panorama in Moscow will launch an exhibition "At the Swiss Border. 1871".

The exposition opens the international project "World History in Panoramas". It is arranged jointly with Bourbaki-Panorama (Switzerland, Lucerne), marking the 140th anniversary of its creation.

Bourbaki-Panorama was named after the French general Charles Bourbaki, commander of one of the French armies during the Franco-Prussian war of 1870–1871. It is one of the few well preserved historical panoramas of the late XIX- early XX centuries, along with the panorama of Borodino by Franz Roubaud. Its plot does not match the battle genre popular at that time. It depicts wartime events, but not bloody fights and battles, only human suffering and war disasters. It focuses on the tragedy of heroes and the relevant compassion.

The exposition provides multimedia fragments of the Bourbaki-Panorama and the history of its heroes. The exhibition features uniforms, weapons and items of the marching life of soldiers and officers of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870–1871 from Sergei Zorin's private collection.
