Memory of Russia: Models of fighting ships will be built in Altai to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Victory

12 October 2009

The students of military-patriotic clubs in Altai Krai are actively involved in preparations for the celebration of the 65th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War.

Moreover the official website of the region’s administration informs that students of the military-patriotic club “Varyag” (“Varangian”) will create three models of the fighting ships, the copies of the ships in time of the Great Patriotic War. Among them the model of the legendary submarine Shch-317 under the commandment of Nikolai Mokhov from Barnaul. In 1942 during the most dramatic period of war in the Baltic in only one campaign the crew of this submarine managed to sink a great number of the enemy’s ships, that later even the submarine’s crew commanded by Alexander Marinesko was not able to excel their heroic deed.

The models of the Guards torpedo-boat destroyer “Soobrazitelny” (“Smart”) (the Black Sea Fleet), the submarine Shch-317 and one of the three patrol ships of the Baltic Fleet, which took part in the Tallinn breakthrough in 1941 are planned to be constructed on a scale of one to twenty-five to celebrate the Victory Day. The students of the “Varyag” are going to demonstrate them to the people of Barnaul and tourists of the city.
