18 February 2010

Mordovia has become the first region in Russia, which was included into an implementation program of a unified electronic museums’ catalogue. A training event for all the workers of museums of the Republic took place in the S. D. Erzia Museum. The seminar was led by specialists of the Museums’ Values’ Record Keeping and Preservation Department of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. "Starting from this year, all the museums of our Republic will work on a creation of an electronic database of their funds, to contribute to the creation of a unified state electronic catalogue, - explained the chief Art specialist of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Mordovia, Ms Salishcheva. – Mordovia has become a pilot region, which is participating in this large-scale project. To complete such a challenging task a number of museums, especially, the ones, which represent large storage funds, need a considerable workforce, intellectual resources as well as modern equipment. This project is going to be co-funded: the Federal Budget is informed to allocate money for software and museum staff training, whereas the budget of the Republic will finance purchasing of necessary equipment for museums".

Specialists claim that the introduction of a unified electronic catalogue will not just improve a system of record keeping of museums’ collections, but considerably facilitate the work of the staff.
