Scientists from South Korea have unveiled the first three-dimensional book in the world and explained that the general release of 3D reading could be just around the corner.

Keen interest in these technologies was aroused by such blockbusters as “Avatar” and “Alice in Wonderland”, which to the utmost made use of new technologies of adding dimensions.

Using 3D technology, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea applied the advances to eBooks. 3D-pioneers among books have become two editions of Korean fairy tales for children.

Readers have to wear 3D glasses whilst cues within the book cause the 3D animations to come to life. It took three years for the team to develop the software, and according to the team leader of the project it will take a while to market this technology to the general public.
