Australia's history is now online after the National Library in Canberra's unveiling of a web-based service holding more than 90 million items including books, music and diaries.

Manager Rose Holley says the database, called “Trove”, includes resources from more than 1,000 libraries around the country.

To access it you don’t need to be in any library, you can do it at home. Thus in case you find something that isn't online then it will tell you where it is. If it's at the National Library of Australia then you can come in and view that item

The service took three years to develop and system designer Kenji Walter says it is more than just a database, it also offers a users' forum. There might be a set of users that might be interested in a particular topic. It might be family history research or anything else. The newly launched service allows them to connect with each other and to kind of build a community around “Trove”.
