Museums: Exhibition “Napoleon and Louvre. From the Holdings of Museums of France” opened in Moscow

The new exhibition “Napoleon and Louvre. From the Holdings of Museums of France” kicked off at the State Historical Museum in Moscow on September 20 2010. The exhibition is held within the framework of the Year of France in Russia and the Year of Russia in France.

On display at the exhibition are masterpieces of Louvre, Chateau of Fontainebleau, world famous museums and private collections of France. They all turn the spotlight on a remarkable personality of Napoleon, his life, his triumphs and defeats, the Empire he managed to set up, as well as outstanding figures of the flowering of the French art of that epoch.

Visitors of the exposition will have a chance to see private belongings of Napoleon and members of his family, an exceptional collection of paintings, sculptures, applied arts, weapons and tapestry, as well as learn how the talented French Emperor succeeded to collect a well-known collection of cultural treasures of the world and create the Louvre.
