International events: International congress “Art museums and preservation of cultural space”

International Congress “Art museums and preservation of cultural space” will take place on September 9-10 2010 at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.

The congress aims to consolidate collaboration between national art museums of neighboring former Soviet countries. Organizers of the congress – the State Hermitage Museum, the Union of Russian Museums and D.S. Likhachev Foundation reckon that the event should result in the agreement between congress participants on holding joint projects in exhibition, academic, information, publishing and educational undertakings.

Participants of the congress are going to discuss the wide range of issues: contemporary state and development strategy of national art museums; merger of the world, national, Russian and Soviet art in the museum space; prospects of exhibition exchange between museums, foundation of museums’ branches, temporary and long-term expositions; improvement of access to cultural heritage via development of information technologies, prospects of integration of museums’ informational resources; collaboration between museums in research work, personnel training and museology development.
