The “Center of Modern Literature and Book”, headed by the writer Alexander Zhitinskiy, has undertaken a project targeted on digitization of book by Petersburg writers. They will be converted into electronic format, recorded on memory cards, and then donated to the Writer’s House, the Pushkin House, the “Center of Modern Literature and Book” and the Committee for Culture.

“Nowadays Russian libraries write off Soviet books, in fact books are being thrown away. They explain there is not enough space to keep them in the libraries”, - the writer says. He is certain that the problem of old books should be tackled on modern technological level, since there are digital technologies which help to store books in electronic format – thus they don’t occupy much space and are preserved for centuries.
