Memory of Russia: Volgograd marks 68th anniversary of Victory in the Battle of Stalingrad

On February 2 2011 Volgograd is mounting celebrations to mark 68th anniversary of victory in the Battle of Stalingrad. At the beginning of the ceremony flowers and wreaths were laid to the Eternal Flame in the Alley of Heroes, while on Mamayev Kurgan kicked off a rally which brought together veterans of the Great Patriotic War, young people, representatives of search units and residents of Volgograd.

Around 1 500 sportsmen from all over Russia and Near Abroad took part in 64th traditional race launched in the center of Volgograd.

To mark the anniversary of the end of the Battle of Stalingrad all the districts of Volgograd will mount meetings of veterans, concerts, photo expositions and exhibitions of children’s drawings, and show documentary newsreel and films dedicated to the legendary battle.
