Publishing and Book Selling: Warsaw Book Fair launched

May 12-15, 2011 the Palace of Culture and Science, Warsaw is holding Warsaw Book Fair. The largest international book exhibition held in Poland has attracted 569 exhibitors from 14 countries. Russia is represented by a united national stand which has been organized by the General Directorate of International Book Exhibitions and Fairs supported by the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications.

The Warsaw Fair occupies the area of 9 000 m2, where apart from a great number of Polish participants, achievements in this industry will be displayed by Armenia, Australia, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Greece, India, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine and Great Britain. Forum’s program includes tens of conferences, meetings with authors and special campaigns intended for children and young adults. Like the past year, this year’s fair has been marked by the development of new technologies theme. In this view together with traditional physical books the book fair showcases a large number of eBooks and other devices. Colorful children literature traditionally occupies a significant place at the fair.

Guests show keen interest in the Russian stand located in one of the best exhibition halls. 60 m2 space covers over 800 book titles issued by more than 170 best Russian publishing houses. The centerpiece of the exposition are works by famous contemporary prose writers and poets, and books about modern Russia, works dedicated to international relations, various albums and textbooks.

“Following a tradition we are presenting a stand dedicated to Russian language learning. The exhibition displays books which cast light on Russian-Polish relations, including those by Polish writers, which were published in Russia”, said the Head of International Relations and Exhibition Organization Department Nina Sudyina. “To mark the anniversary of space exploration we are putting on display editions from the Life of Remarkable People series (Zhizn Zamechatelnykh Lyudei), on space exploration, first man’s flight to the near-earth orbit”, she added.

Apart from the exhibition, Russian participants have prepared series of events, in particular meetings with a famous researcher of Fyodor Dostyevsky’s works Professor Vladimir Zakharov and a popular prose writer Anatoly Kurchatkin, lectures and creative meetings.
