International events: National Library of Russia stages an exhibition within Days of Sweden in St. Petersburg

June 6, 2011 the National Library of Russia, New building (St. Petersburg) launched a book exhibition “Swedish collection of the National Library of Russia: new arrivals for the past two decades” to mark the Days of Sweden in St. Petersburg and the Day of Swedish Flag.

The exhibition showcases over 400 editions, received by the library following the international book exchange practice with major libraries of Sweden. Exhibits include books, magazines and editions published by Swedish universities, which cover a range of subjects.

The seminar “Modern Swedish literature in St. Petersburg” was held in the conference hall of the National Library of Russia.

In the second half of 19th c. the Imperial Public Library (today the National Library of Russia) established its first contacts with the Royal Library in Stockholm. As for today, there are 42 Swedish organizations involved in the book exchange practice with the National Library of Russia. Every year the library receives around 100 books and more than 100 magazine titles from Sweden.

Days of Sweden are running in St. Petersburg from May 30 to June 8. This year the holiday has become more mature and has acquired a new status. “Days of Sweden” boast not only its entertainment events for city residents, but also business meetings which attract Swedish companies in St. Petersburg, and also events for the city’s scientific community.

Days of Sweden in St. Petersburg have been organized by the Consulate General of Sweden in St. Petersburg jointly with a number of Swedish companies and organizations supported by the St. Petersburg City Administration.
