National Culture: Remains of Moscow Triumphal Gate’s foundation discovered in Irkutsk

On July 13, 2011 in Irkutsk were discovered the remains of a stone construction. Archaeologists suppose that these are the foundation fragments of demolished Moscow Triumphal Gate.

The team of Irkutsk archaeologists has examined the discovered fragments and took their measurements, in addition, all those interested had a chance to visit the site where the discovery was made and examine the object all by themselves.

Determination of the monument’s exact location generates scientific interest. Discovered foundation will help to learn about building technologies of the relevant historical period what will be useful during the restoration and major repairs of other buildings, which date back to the end 18th – beginning 19th cc.
