14 August 2011

A large mausoleum of the Golden Horde period was found near Ekibastuz, Pavlodar region (Kazakhstan).

According to head of the archaeological expedition Timur Smagulov, a valuable finding was discovered during excavations at a unique archaeological monument "Akkol Zhayylma" by archaeologists of Pavlodar State Pedagogical Institute and scientists from the A. Margulan Institute of Archaeology.

Also on this site were found unique medieval workshops, original irrigation systems, silver and copper coins minted in Eastern Europe and China. Scientists have already begun to process their findings.

"Of particular interest are the decorative tiles, which lined the walls of the mausoleum. It is carved with geometric patterns bearing mysterious signs, which are yet to be interpreted", - said the archaeologist.
