Museums: Meeting on preparation for Hermitage’s 250th anniversary celebrations launched

On September 21 2011 was held the first meeting of the organizational committee responsible for preparation of celebrations timed to 250th anniversary of the State Hermitage due in 2014. The meeting approved the draft of the new charter of the State Hermitage.

“It is supposed that the founder will be not the Ministry of Culture but the Government of the Russian Federation”, said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, who is the head of the organizing committee, when the meeting was over.

At the meeting of the organizing committee Director of Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky reminded that 2014 will see the completion of restoration works and launch of expositions in the east wing of the General Staff building. What is more, he mentioned about the plans which consist in restoration of the iconostasis of the Grand Church of the Winter Palace and establishment of the Guards Museum.

In addition the jubilee will see an extensive exhibition program that will be on show not only in St. Petersburg, but also in the Hermitage branches in Russia and in the world. Apart from that, Hermitage is looking forward to a large-scale publishing program.
