Territory of Russia: Photo exhibition on Yamal mounted in Paris

23 November 2011

On November 22 2011 the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Paris staged a photo exhibition “Yamal: Traditions and Modern Time”.

This photo exhibition which will run through November 26 2011 lets visitors discover the history, culture and modern life of the Arctic territory. It continues a project called “Yamal: borders of millenniums in modern culture”, which had been implemented between 2004 and 2009 in Hungary and Serbia.

The exhibition provides a comparative analysis of ways the modern culture and traditions of indigenous people of the autonomous district is perceived by representatives of different generations and cultures – the historian of Yamal Lyudmila Lipatova and French journalist Astrid Wendlandt, who spent several years on the study of peoples living in the Far North.
