Museums: St. Petersburg International Museum Forum

St. Petersburg International Museum Forum is running on November 1-2 2011 within the framework of St. Petersburg Cultural Forum and is dedicated to the Historical and Cultural Heritage Year, announced by Heads of the CIS states. This forum is timed to 10th anniversary of Russia’s Union of Museums.

Purposes of the forum are: concentration of efforts of Russia’s museum communities, CIS members, world museum community in preservation of cultural heritage, deployment of this crucial resource for education and upbringing, shaping solid and effective relations between the history and the future of the world, countries, and local communities.

The meeting of professionals, who have been preserving and promoting museums in Eurasia, is called to initiate a brand new stage in establishment and consolidation of unity among museums in CIS countries and within the whole Eurasian continent.

Discussions at the forum will address the following themes:

- Cultural and historical heritage and museums as a crucial factor for promotion of common cultural environment of CIS countries;

- Museum activities in the context of “information civilization” development;

- Education and upbringing as one of major functions of the modern museum.

Elaboration of general approaches to evaluation of existing problems and coordination of efforts to deal with them, will impart dynamics and effectiveness which are necessary at present time to cooperation in the area of cultural and historical heritage.
