Museums of Russia: Theoretical and Practical Conference “Museum in a Region” underway in Saratov

On December 13th-15th 2011 Saratov Regional Local Lore Museum is holding a theoretical and practical conference “Museum in a Region: Presentation of Cultural Heritage, Cultural and Public Mission”, which marks the museum’s 125th anniversary.

The conference will address the following issues: 

- Museum as a custodian of historical and cultural heritage;

- Role of a museum in shaping the image of a region;

- Museum and society: models of cooperation;

- Museum collections: ways of development, study, presentation;

- Innovations and new technologies at museums;

- History and nature of Saratov Volga Region: pages, faces, artefacts, study of the past and present as museum’s information resource.

The conference has attracted over 60 scientists, museum workers, local historians of Saratov and Saratov Region, prominent museum community specialists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Volgograd, Astrakhan, Ufa; Voronezh, Tyumen and Pskov Regions. Reports will be delivered by leading staff members of central museums of Russia.
