Regions of Russia: English Etchings of 18th – 19th centuries displayed in Astrakhan

February 17, 2012 the Engraving Hall of the P. M. Dogadin Astrakhan State Art Gallery launches "The English Engraving of 18th – 19th centuries" exhibition.

The exposition includes 25 plates of prints by famous British artists who applied the etching technique in the work.

The core of the exhibition is represented by the prints from the "Fashion Marriage" series of the outstanding English painter William Hogarth (1697-1764) performed in London in 1796 by artists and engravers T. Cook and B. Smith.

One of the sections features brilliant author prints by Hogarth himself devoted to the genre of literary illustration. Exposition also includes works by some of Hogarth’s contemporaries and followers, famous masters of English school of the 19th century, who had reproduced paintings from the collection of the London National Gallery and other collections. The exhibition is part of the Museum’s "Maecenas Club" project.
