Libraries of Russia: “Modern Library” workshop runs in St. Petersburg

On March 12th 2012 the Scientific Technical Information Center “Progress” in St. Petersburg is holding a workshop called “Modern Library”.

The workshop addresses the following issues:

- Legal regulation of library performance.

- Reformation of state and municipal cultural institutions.

- The legal framework of an activity which generates profits in the light of a new Federal Law on improvement of state and municipal institutions.

- Library-specific local legal acts at libraries of different levels: elaboration and adoption, legal force, main types.

- Library as an object and subject of charity.

- Trends in automation of library and bibliographic processes; book protection system; modern technologies (RFID-technologies).

The seminar will also touch upon the issues of building a corporate network of public libraries following the experience of St. Petersburg, programs for reading promotion and improvement of book’s status at Russian libraries, Information Technologies in patron services, and efficiency improvement of patron services.
