Memory of Russia: History festival “The Council of martial warriors in Veliky Novgorod”

April 29-30, 2012 takes place a traditional inter-regional historic festival “The Council of martial warriors in Veliky Novgorod”. The festival takes place for the 13th time. It is dedicated to the 770th anniversary of the victory of Alexander Nevsky troops on the Lake Peipsi.

The historical festival in Veliky Novgorod is always a bright and memorable event. Every year it brings together hundreds of spectators and participants from different cities. In 2011 the festival was attended by 150 representatives of 16 clubs of historical reconstruction of Saint-Petersburg, Petrodvorets, Pskov, Tver, Velikie Luki, Odincovo (the Moscow region), Yaroslavl and Veliky Novgorod.

The purpose of the historic festival is the youth revival to a lively interest to the history of the Novgorod land, the best traditions of the Russian and the West European military art.

The program includes the opening of the monument “Millennium of Russia”, a competition of historical costume, a historical fencing tournament and archery, theatrical show of martial warriors at the walls of St. Sophia Cathedral in the Kremlin, the squads of martial maneuvers, mass collision, performances by folk groups and the fire theater.
