Information technology and society: ICANN to consider the application on delegation of domain zone .RUS

The "Russian Names" has applied to the root domain .RUS. In accordance with the rules of ICANN, all the necessary documents have been loaded into the electronic filing system before April 12 and the fee for application consideration has been paid. As follows from the application, the Cyrillic domain .RUS is designed to "promote the language, culture and identity of the global Russian-speaking community."

Russian language has the official status in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Moldova, Norway, Ukraine, United States. Russian-speaking people live in Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Israel, Mongolia, Finland, Germany, France, Canada and Australia. Russian is the official language for the following international organizations: UN, UNESCO, IAEA, WHO, ICAO, CIS, EurAsEC, CSTO, SCO, SDA, OSCE, BRICS.

The "Russian Names" say that the introduction of the domain .RUS has been supported by the global Russian-speaking community: supporting letters have been sent from the Coordination Center for the RU national domain, the Fund for the development of Internet technology and infrastructure, the Ukrainian Network Information Center, the Kazakh IT companies Association, the Kazakh Network Information Center, Internet society of Armenia, the Administrator of the root domain of Azerbaijan, the Russian-Canadian business Club.

Some Russian accredited domain registrars have also expressed support and willingness to register domains in the .RUS zone for their clients and partners.
