Russian Museums: Museum of the Stone History to open in Nalchik

11 July 2012

The administration of Nalchik, on the initiative of local regional specialists, agreed to establish the museum of stones in the open air in the town park, says the press service of the Head of Kabardino-Balkaria .

"It is assumed that the exhibits will be stone menhirs (idols) as well as various kinds of artifacts, dating back millions of years before our era - the ammonites, the "stone balls" (nodules - spherical mineral formations), the stones of unusual shape and color", - as it is said in a statement.

It is also planned to collect so-called scribbles - ocher drawings of ancient art, virtually destroyed in the recent time.

The museum will be located in the Atazhukinsky garden of Nalchik. Stone artifacts will be installed directly among the trees, and between them will be pedestrian trails, which if necessary can be quickly eliminated without any harm to the ecology of the area.

"The establishment of the museum of the rock history, not requiring big material investments, will not only attract tourists but also make their pastime more meaningful. There is no such a museum not only in the North Caucasus, but also in the Russian Federation as a whole", - says the press service.
