Society and book culture: Days of Orthodox book to be held in the Pskov Regional Library

13-17 March 2013, the Pskov Regional Universal Scientific Library holds the Days of Orthodox books.

According to the Deputy Director of the Pskov Regional Universal Scientific Library Natalya Antonova, Days of Orthodox books are held in the Pskov regional Universal Scientific Library not for the first year. This year, the program of events will take place: the opening of the exhibition “Orthodox book and the revival of spiritual culture” from the collection of the Regional Library and the libraries of Pskov churches and monasteries, and presentations of new books by Pskov writer Igor Smolkin and publications issued by the Pskov-Caves Monastery.

The collection of the Center for rare and valuable documents of the Pskov Regional Universal Scientific Library stores editions published in the XIX - early XX centuries, some of them will be presented at the exhibition. In addition to the exhibition it also will be presented modern books on Orthodoxy. Also in the Days of Orthodox books take part annually Pskov writers and poets.

The Day of Orthodox books was established by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church at the initiative of the Patriarch. It is dated to the date of release of the book by Ivan Feodorov “The Apostle”, which is considered to be the first printed book in Russia - its publication dated March 14 (New Style, March 1 Old Style), 1564.
