History and culture: The exhibition “Russia of N. V. Gogol” from the collection of the State Historical Museum in the Orel region

May 24, 2013 at the I. S. Turgenev State Memorial and Natural Museum Reserve “Spassky-Lutovinovo” (the Orel region) opened the exhibition “Russia of N. V. Gogol” from the collection of the State Historical Museum.

The exposition is based on the writer’s interlacing of life with the characters of his works on the background of historical, mythological and everyday worlds of Ukraine, Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Rome and Jerusalem - those places which are associated with the fate and the life of the writer.

The center of the first section of the exhibition is devoted to his homeland, and it has become visually projected onto the big screen, designed as a rug from the estate Gogol-Yanovsky, woven from drawings by the author himself.

Among the exhibits can be distinguished personal belongings of the writer and family Gogol-Yanovsky, autographs of Gogol, his letters to his family, pictures, prayers of Gogol on the creation and completion of “Dead Souls” and autograph by I. S. Turgenev - list of “Literary and life' memories”. Visitors’ interest will cause the original illustrations of P. M. Boklevsky to Gogol’s poem “Dead Souls”.

The exhibition will run till August 30, 2013.
