International events: The exhibition “The Germans in the Russian history” in Saratov

The Saratov regional museum of local history opened the exhibition “The Germans in Russian history”, prepared by the International Union of German culture.

The exhibition is created on the eve of a significant date - the 250th anniversary of the mass migration of Germans into the territory of Russia, on the eve of the Year of Germany and Russia. The exhibition has been seen in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Ulyanovsk, Syktyvkar, Pyatigorsk, Rostov-on-Don and others.

The exhibition tells the story of inviting foreign colonists by Empress Catherine II and the subsequent cultural interaction between Russian and German peoples.

The main exhibits are copies of documents, maps, prints and photographs stored in public museums and archives in Russia and Germany, which are presented in the exact size of the original.

The information about individual prominent Germans who contributed to the development of Russia is presented in the form of electronic presentations. With their help, visitors can learn about the Empress Catherine II and statesman A. I. Osterman, the Mariner I. F. Krusenstern and scholar W. Struve, poet V. K. Kuechelbecker, artist Y. Y. Weber, the photographer K. Bullet and etc.

The exhibition is completed with an electronic version of the album “The Germans in Russian history”. It contains articles by scientists in Russia and Germany, rare photographs. The album has also the print version, which will be available in major libraries in Russia.
