Libraries and society: The International conference ABDOS “Towards a new self-knowledge – the library as a cultural and social center” in Minsk

28-30 August 2013 the National Library of Belarus in Minsk hosts the 42th International Conference “Towards a new self-knowledge - the library as a cultural and social center”, organized by the Association of libraries and information centers in Eastern, Central and South-Eastern Europe (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Bibliotheken und Dokumentationsstellen der Ost-, Ostmittel-und Südosteuropaforschung (ABDOS).

At the conference will be discussed the following issues:

- The modern role and tasks of libraries in the cities and the countryside.

- The development of a reading culture in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe in recent years / decades.

- Slavic Studies, Polish Studies, Germanic and Anglistics in Belarus - academic work and acquisitions of literature.

- Electronic libraries in Belarus, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.

- Research in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe in the world – what is really important to our users?
