The history of Russian lacquer painting has more than two centuries. Since the inception, the products of Russian masters are much different from Western counterparts, and most importantly, the content of the painting has a distinct national character. Subjects are taken as a basis for folk tales and folk legends and myths, Old and classic literature and poetry, life and traditions of Russian as a reflection of the aesthetics of national identity. In Soviet times, the art of lacquer painting was not lost. The content of lacquer miniatures preserved traditional subjects and appeared brand new, reflecting the color of the Soviet era and its artistic aesthetics. In Russia, there are currently four centers of lacquer miniature painting art: Fedoskino, Palekh, and Mstera Kholui.

The exhibition marked the beginning of large-scale project “Heritage of Russia. Traditions for the future”. In its framework will be held exhibitions devoted to handicrafts, conferences and seminars.
