Russian museums: The Novocherkassk Museum of Don Cossack to show its exposition in Salekhard as part of the Arctic Cultural Forum

The exhibits from the Novocherkassk Museum of History of Don Cossack will soon be sent to the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District. They can be seen at the inter-museum exhibition “Power and Glory of Russia”, which will be open in Salekhard in early April. The exhibition project is planned as part of the Arctic Cultural Forum (April 2-5, 2014) and is dedicated to the Year of Culture.

The Novocherkassk Museum will tell about the history of Don Cossack since the 16th century till nowadays. For the show are prepared clothes and weapons, regalia and banners, the Don parsuna (formal portraits of atamans), as well as the recent acquisitions, telling of the processes of the revival of the Cossacks on the Don.

The residents of the North territories are close to this topic. The history of Salekhard goes back to the Obdorsk fortress, founded 400 years ago. It was one of the first Russian settlements in Siberia.

The collection of the Novocherkassk Museum is well known in the country and abroad. Over the past 3 years the collective participated in 6 inter-museum exhibition projects. This year the geography of trips extended. For the first time the items from the Novocherkassk collection will through the Arctic Circle.
