Russian libraries: Annual action “Manuscript Depository” at the National Library of Russia

March 19, 2014 in the Conference Hall of the main building of the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg) is held an annual event "Manuscript Depository".

These meetings are traditionally held by the Department of Manuscripts of the NLR. Subject reports - research in the field of manuscript collections.

At the meeting will be delivered reports of specialists of the Department of Manuscripts of the NLR about acquired in 2013 manuscript collections and archives, including an archive of Petersburg writer Sergei Sergeyevich Tkhorzhevsky, the collection of musical materials of Petersburg composer and collector Ivan Borisovich Semyonov and unique diaries of Guards officer Vladimir Stepanovich Savonko, covering the period from 1899 to 1906.

The report "Samaritan scroll case for Abish" dedicated to the events connected with the history of the case for one of the most revered shrines of Samaritans - Scroll of the Pentateuch, written, according to legend, by hand of Abish, the son of Phinehas, the son of Aaron ( brother of Moses), i. e. more than 3600 years ago.

About entered the Imperial Public Library in 1874 as part of Khiva collection list "Timur Code" created by famous Iranian writer, poet, historian, court worker Riza-Kulihan Hidayat and his involvement in the Iranian embassy is told in the report "Timur Codes" from the collection of K. P. von Kaufman (PNS 304) and the Iranian Embassy in 1851 in Khiva".

In the exhibition hall of the Department of Manuscript under "Manuscript Depository", will be held the official opening of the exhibition "New Acquisitions of handwritten documents to the Russian National Library".

The exhibition presents the personal documents, photos and other materials on the content of the newly received funds and collections of the Department of Manuscripts.

The exhibition will run till April 10.
