Internet and Society: "Yandex" Has Introduced "The Internet Development in Russia's Regions" New Information Bulletin

The company "Yandex" has issued a new information bulletin "The Internet Development in Russia's Regions." According to it, about 40% of the large cities’ residents in Russia goes online using mobile devices.

The highest rate of going online with mobile devices population is in Far Eastern District - 50%. For this indicator, the Far East has overtaken Moscow (49%) and St. Petersburg (43%). Least of all mobile Internet is in the Northwest (33%) and Siberia (35%) districts.

The mobile Internet audience is increasing every year faster and faster. In 2013 it grew by half again as - on 8.7 million users more. The highest increase was recorded in Ural and in Moscow, where the amount of users raised respectively on 69% and 64%.

An audience increase comes along a significant cheapening of mobile access to the Internet: according to "Yandex", the cost of mobile data traffic per gigabyte decreased by 56% in 2013.

According to the “Yandex.Metric" from February 2014, 86% of Russian mobile Internet users go online with smartphones and communicators based on Android (41%) and iOS (45%). Share of alternative platforms of mobile devices used to access the Internet in various regions does not exceed 10-20%.
