The Presidential Library: New acquisitions

To the 311th anniversary of Saint-Petersburg the collection of the Presidential Library Saint-Petersburg: pages of history has been enriched with materials provided by the Russian State Historical Archive, the Russian State Library, the State Public Historical Library and the M. Gorky Vladimir Regional Universal Scientific Library.

On the history of the area now occupied by the St. Petersburg, on the significance of the Neva River as a trade route, on the foundation of the city by Peter the Great and its building is described in the brochure of Sergei Ivanovich Grechushkin In St. Petersburg under Peter the Great (Moscow, 1910).

On the Plan of capital city of St. Petersburg with the image of the noblest prospectuses (St. Petersburg, 1753) published by the Imperial Academy of Sciences and Arts and the designated side of the island, rivers and canals, monasteries, cathedral and parish churches, houses of Her Imperial Majesty, public buildings, as well as meadows, squares, streets, alleys and bridges during the reign of Elizabeth. The instance has 9 sheets of plans, 8 sheets of illustrations.

The construction of buildings for the highest state and church organs Senate and Synod were attracted famous architects of the time. At the competition in 1827 defeated the project of Carlo Rossi. In August 1829 the Senate building was laid, and in 1830 - the building of the Synod. The construction was supervised by the architect Alexander Schtaubert. The project of design of the facade of buildings (RGIA. F. 1399. Op. 1. C. 687) was approved in 1832 as evidenced by the inscription: "The Highest in Alexandria approved July 5, 1832. Lieutenant-General Bazin. "Now the Senate building is the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation, and the Synod building id the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library.

To the 200th anniversary of Alexander Nevsky Lavra was published a historical research off doctor of church history, archeographer Stepan G. Runkevich Alexander Nevsky Lavra: 1713-1913 (St. Petersburg, 1913). The basis of the fundamental work is documents of Lavra, Synod and other archives. The history of the monastery is divided into several periods: Alexander Nevsky Monastery in the reign of Peter the Great (1713-1725); Alexander Nevsky Lavra under archimandrites (1725-1742); Alexander Nevsky Lavra under diocesan bishops (1742-1797) Alexander Nevsky Lavra (1797-1913). In the book there is a detailed explanation of the life and activities of the monastery, reflected the economic situation of the monastery, the state of its economy, budget items, institutions such as printing the Alexander Nevsky Monastery and Seminary, the deserts and small abodes assigned to the monastery at different times. A great value is illustrations - portraits of eminent personalities connected with the history of the monastery, photos of different parts of the monastery, drawings, engravings depicting its relics, works of art.

The work by academician of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences, professor of mathematics and physics Georg Wolfgang Kraft Authentic and detailed description of built in St. Petersburg in January 1740 Ice House and everyone in the house things and hats with attached though figures and some notes about the former in 1740 throughout Europe cruel frost (St. Petersburg, 1741) is devoted to an unusual structure erected on the banks of the Neva. Ice house was built in December 1739 - January 1740 by the Empress Anna Ivanovna and was intended to mock wedding of Prince M. A. Golitsyn and A. I. Buzheninova. The house was built of ice blocks, held together with water and decorated in Baroque style. All the interior, as well as sauna, guns, mortars, dolphin and elephant figures in front of house were poured of ice. Kraft gave a detailed description of the disclosed technology and construction of a unique structure.

The publication Eyewitness stories about the fire of the Winter Palace in 1837 (Moscow, 1865), a collection of reminiscences of various military and public figures of the time: A. K. Benckendorf, A. F. Orlov, Korf, L. M. Baranovych, E. I. Mirbach about the grand incident in which burned all the interior of the main imperial residence, were lost numerous manuscripts and chronicles related to various events in Russian history, forever lost numerous works of art and life.

In the Essay of History of the Saint-Petersburg Commercial Court: 1833-1883 (St. Petersburg, 1883) of Gustav Karlovic Martens is provided a summary of the history of the commercial court. It is considered a Charter of commercial vessels in 1832 and its features, described the opening of the St. Petersburg Commercial Court in 1833, the composition of the Court and the Office, on the jury and the jury trustees solicitors, court proceedings of the St. Petersburg Commercial Court on budget and on court the number of cases since 1833 in the annex for a list of chairmen and members of the St. Petersburg commercial Court since its inception to 1833.

Art critic and theater critic Eduard Alexandrovich Stark in a book Petersburg Opera and its masters: 1890-1910 (L.; M., 1940) tells the story of the brilliant period in the history of opera in Russia in the mid 90s of the XIX century to 10s of the XX century. The author tells about the repertoire of the Mariinsky Theatre during this period, the orchestra and chorus of performers, soloists; he recalls the famous operas such as F. V. Lytvyn, M. B. Cherkassakaya, I. A. Alchevsky, I. V. Tartakov, N. N. Figner M. I. Figner, I. V. Ershov, L. B. Sobinov, F. I. Stravinsky and others.

The local lore story of Peter Nikolaevich Stolpyansky Revolutionary Petersburg: At the cradle of Russian Freedom (St. Petersburg, 1922) is devoted to various places in St. Petersburg, related to the history of the revolutionary movement in the second half of XIX century. The book introduces the "topography actions mainly the People and their predecessors", life of the city on the Neva.

The collected by the department of the Petrograd city council from 1906 to 1915 information about St. Petersburg are published in the edition Petrograd: statistical data relating to the city of Petrograd and Petrograd municipal services. (Pg. 1916) provides insight about the changes emerging in the living conditions of the population and Urban Development under the influence of the military events.
