International events: The World Congress of Russian press in China

China has become the first Asian country, which hosts the World Congress of Russia press. The forum is held from May 19-22, 2014 in Shanghai. The congress in attended by more than 200 leading editors, publishers and leading journalists of Russian-language foreign media from 40 countries of the world, as well as heads of leading media of Russia, leaders of publishing houses and information holdings, famous public and political figures of Russia and China.

The organizers of the congress – is the World Association of Russian Press (WARP), information agency of Russian ITAR-TASS and the International radio of China – an authoritative media outlet of China, having strong service of broadcasting in Russian language.

On the agenda is the discussion of such issues as increasing presence of Russian language media in the Internet, the problem of preservation and development of the Russian language abroad, the establishment and expansion of business, professional and cultural ties between the Russian-language foreign media.

Russia and China create a single media space with an eye to the globalization of information presence of the Russian media. This agreement was secured on May 18 at the grand opening ceremony of the Congress signing the tripartite memorandum of cooperation ITAR-TASS, China Radio International and the World Association of Russian Press.

The XVI World Congress of Russian press is timed to the 110th anniversary of the ITAR-TASS as well as the 60th anniversary since the beginning of the International broadcasting of China Radio in Russian.

The World Congress of Russian Press runs concurrently with the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which will bring together the leaders of 40 countries and international organizations. In particular, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin arrived in Shanghai. He did not take part in the CICA summit, but also hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of the Chinese state. A large government delegation came to China with Putin, many of members of which will attend the meeting of the World Association of Russian Press. Among them - the Culture Minister of Russia Vladimir Medinsky and the head of Rospechat Mikhail Seslavinsky.

The previous XV World Congress of Russian Press was held in 2013 in Minsk, the year earlier the editors gathered together in Naples.
