26 June 2014

The gallery of the Transfiguration Cathedral in Suzdal on June 25 hosts the exhibition “The Roerich Pact. The Past and the Present”. The exhibition is timed to the 140th anniversary of the artist and thinker Nikolai Konstantinovich Roerich.

The exposition features materials about the history of creation of the Roerich Pact, photographs and documents, as well as reproductions of artist’s paintings. The exhibition is held as part of the International Exhibition project, dedicated to the Treaty “On the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historical Monuments”. The document, which went to the history as the Roerich Pact, includes the principles of culture preservation, which became the basis of international humanitarian law in the field of preservation of cultural values. The Roerich pact was signed in Washington in April 1935, which claims the absolute protection of historical monuments and museum in the world and war time.
