Peoples of Russia: Exhibition “Haytarma. The Art of the Crimean Tatars” in Moscow

4 June 2014

From June 4-29, 2014 at the State Museum of the Peoples Oriental Art in Moscow is held the exhibition “Haytarma. The Art of the Crimean Tatars”.

The exhibition is organized together with the Ministry of Culture of Russian and the Mardjani Foundation.

The Moscow public is presented multifaceted and rich creativity of the Crimean-Tatar peoples. Among the exhibits - jewelry, embroidery, textiles, paintings, graphic works, ceramics, renovation of traditional costume, rugs, vintage photographs, postcards and more. The exhibition includes works like traditional art of the XIX - early XX centuries (the collection of the State oriental Museum and the Mardzhani Foundation) and works of contemporary artists.

A special place in the exposition belongs to photographs and postcards from the collection of Nizami Ibraimov. The impression will be reinforced with photographs of Rifkhat Yakupov, telling of the return of the Crimean Tatars to their historical homeland after the massive deportation in 1944.

The exhibition, prepared by the State Oriental Museum and the Mardjani Foundation 70 years after the tragic events is of special significance. This is clear evidence of the vital energy and artistic talent of the people, who had serious trials. The exhibition's title was not chosen randomly. Haytarma is a folk dance, which was performed for centuries in traditional weddings. Largely thanks to it the Crimean Tatars have not lost their national identity.
