17 July 2014

July 16, 2014 the State Literary Museum celebrated its 80th anniversary in the Moscow Museum-Reserve “Tsaritsyno”, where opened the exhibition “The Literary Museum: the memory of the future”, which features a part of the collection, gathered by the museum over 80 years of its existence.

The idea of the creation belongs to the prominent scientists and cultural worker Vladimir Bonch-Bruyevich. According to his concept the central literary museum of the country should combine several cultural and scientific functions – not only the museum, but libraries, archives, research institute and humanitarian publishing house.

Currently it is the largest literary museum of Russia and one of the most significant relevant institutions in the world. Its collections contain thousands of museum items – manuscripts, books, photographs and negatives, audio recordings, works of art and drawings, as well as other materials, associated to the life and work of prominent authors and thinkers of the XV-XXI centuries.
