History of Russian navigation: The exhibition, dedicated to the 195th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica, in Saint-Petersburg

In the reading room of the Archive of Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps (St. Petersburg) is opened the exhibition "Dedicated to the 195th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica". It is known that the materials of the first Antarctic expedition of Russian stores, mainly in the Russian State Archive of the Navy, the original drawings made during the expedition of academician of painting P. N. Mikhailov, were discovered in 1949 in the collections of the State Historical Museum.

Few people know that the personal award documents of F. F. Bellingshausen were part of the collection of General Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolayevich. In 1937-1938 it was disbanded and most of the documents were transferred to the Historical Museum of Artillery (currently – the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineers and Signal Corps).

Currently his personal archive stores award documents of F. F. Bellingshausen - Highest certificates on awarding orders, patents for ranks that indicate recognition of a naval officer, the discoverer of Antarctica, the chief commander of the port of Kronstadt and the military governor of Kronstadt to the Russian Navy and the Fatherland are presented at the exhibition.
