Information technology and museums: Virtual tours appeared at museums of the Sverdlovsk region

The Center for Innovative Technology has launched a virtual museum project "Atlas of the museums of the Sverdlovsk region". Panoramic tours will allow anyone to visit the Ural museums remotely.

The project includes 29 museums in the region, in particular the memorial house-museum of Tchaikovsky in Alapayevsk, the Irbit State Motorcycle Museum, the Museum of Ernst Unknown, the Museum-Estate "Demidov dacha" and a Photographic museum "Metenkov House". To make 3D-tour of the museum collections is possible at the website of the project.

Virtual atlas combines panoramic photos, description and exposition halls of the museum, as well as information about the location of cultural institutions of the Sverdlovsk region. To create tours is used the method of spherical photography. Panoramas were made using equipment installed in the aircraft.

The project has been created for two years since 2013 on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture of the Sverdlovsk region. Soon virtual tours through the Sverdlovsk museums will be placed at the federal portal культура.рф.

In 2015 the founders plan to expand the target audience of the project by creating a resource for teachers in the classroom. Tentative title of the project "Virtual Atlas of museums – to the teachers of the school". According to the authors, the objects from the museum display, with their history, values and significance will help the teacher to conduct a lesson in an interactive way.
